A LIE OF THE MIND

 One of the things that always attracts me to Sam Shepard is the feel of the southwest in his plays.  The broken, torn, and tattered remains of an American dream.  For me, driving through east Texas and New Mexico, I was struck by how much the old billboards seemed like a visual metaphor for that idea.  I think it gave the show a sense of "wander" lust.
